Yes. Google’s universal Maps links are designed to work across devices. On Android or iPhone, the link will open the Google Maps app if it is installed. If the app is not available, Google Maps opens in the browser instead. On a desktop computer, the directions open in Google Maps in the browser.
Yes. You can use the generated link anywhere you would normally add a URL, including a Get Directions button, contact page, location page, email, text message, or social media profile. The tool also creates ready-to-copy HTML for adding a simple Get Directions link to a website.
Yes. After you select your business, this tool automatically creates a QR code containing the Google Maps directions link. Download the QR code and use it on signs, business cards, flyers, appointment cards, menus, or other printed materials. When someone scans it, Google Maps opens with your business set as the destination.
Links copied directly from Google Maps can contain a large amount of location and map data, which is why they can become extremely long. This tool instead creates a cleaner link using Google’s official Maps URL format and the selected business’s Google Place ID.
The generated URL may still contain an encoded business name and address, but it is much easier to use than the long URL copied from the Google Maps address bar.
Google’s documented directions format is based on google.com/maps/dir/?api=1 with parameters for the destination, Place ID, travel mode, and other optional information.
A Google Place ID is a unique identifier Google uses for a specific place or business. This tool includes the Place ID in the directions link to help Google Maps identify the exact business you selected instead of relying only on a name or address. Google specifically recommends using a Place ID when you need to definitively link to a particular establishment.
Need the ID by itself? Use our free Google Place ID Finder.
The Google Maps URL itself does not have a built-in expiration date. However, the Google Place ID used in the link can change if Google updates its place database or if a business moves, closes, or its listing changes significantly.
Google recommends refreshing stored Place IDs that are more than 12 months old. If your business moves or an older directions link stops opening the correct location, simply use this tool again to generate a new link.
This tool works best for businesses with a public address customers can visit. If your business doesn’t appear, try searching the exact business name followed by the city and state. Service-area businesses with hidden addresses may not be available for driving directions.
